Long years ago I shared a portfolio of my poems with a dear friend from my youth. She wanted to know the origen of the title I used, "Glebewise." I told her it was a compound word I'd fashioned. My understanding of "glebe" was that it was a clod of earth. I later learned it was dedicated land for support of the person who kept the church grounds and lands and probably the housing for this peasant.
